Every beginner knows that a hookah can be prepared using wine, but an incorrect preparation process can ruin the taste of any tobacco blend and even “knock out” an inexperienced smoker. What makes such a hookah special, and which wine is best suited for it?
Choosing the right wine
A hookah can be prepared with almost any alcoholic beverage – vodka, cognac, absinthe, rum, or even gin. Wine is also suitable; everything depends on the smoker’s personal preferences. Experts and seasoned hookah enthusiasts recommend using young red wine – it fully enriches the tobacco smoke with the aroma of freshly pressed grapes, adds intoxicating notes, and delivers new taste sensations.

It’s best to dilute wine with clean water; fruit juices, on the other hand, may spoil the grape flavor. The optimal ratio is one part wine to three parts water, though some enthusiasts prefer a more daring 1:1 proportion. Preparing the hookah
Pouring wine into the base is not enough for proper smoking – the mixture must be prepared first. To do this:
wash the hookah thoroughly from dust and dirt, and dry it completely;
before pouring into the base, chill the wine in the refrigerator for 30–40 minutes;
add crushed ice to the wine-and-water mixture in the base.
The main mistake beginners make is reusing the liquid mixture – the used fluid becomes saturated with nicotine, toxic compounds, and tar, which not only ruins the taste of the smoke but can also lead to extremely harmful consequences.
